The second version of my Solidoodle 2 Anti-Backlash Assembly has a reduced overall height, offering more space between the nut top and z-axis screw at full bed elevation. A photo showcases the difference with V1 on the left and V2 on the right. The spring for this project has an O.D. of 0.825, I.D. of 0.725, and wire thickness of 0.05, with a free length of approximately 1.2 inches and compressed length of 0.300 inches. A suitable alternative is part no. S-799 from Century Spring (centuryspring.com). During printing, the upper spring retainer should be printed with the hex side down, using support material inside the hex; it may be possible to print without support in the future with a chamfered bottom. When assembling, ensure the halves fit and slide vertically without binding by filing the mating surfaces slightly.
