Solidarity (Verbondenheid) in Sint-Niklaas, Belgium
myminifactory
This sculpture by Werner Heyndrickx of Sint-Niklaas brings three abstract figures together in a merging form. As an artist who grew up during the Great War, Heyndrickx was deeply affected by its impact on his city. His sculptures are known for their sensitivity and expressiveness, serving as a protest against war's violence. The subjects of his work rise from the base as if emerging from the ground, connected in a sense of solidarity rather than individuality. A strong concept of compactness and monolithicism defines the shape of his figures, characteristic of Heyndrickx' style. Originally modelled in plaster, these sculptures were later cast in bronze with the help of AZ Nikolaas after Heyndrickx' workshop collapsed under rubble. This object is part of "Scan The World", a non-profit initiative by MyMiniFactory that aims to create a digital archive of fully 3D printable sculptures and artworks from around the globe for public access.
