Solenoid V8 Engine

Solenoid V8 Engine

Good morning everyone, I'm back with some exciting news! Check out this incredible project: a 3D printed V8 solenoid engine that's packed with innovative features. You can see the full story at http://3dprint.com/118388/3d-printed-v8-solenoid-engine/. After building my smaller engine, I encountered some issues - heat dispersion and timing problems. To solve these issues, I used larger solenoids for cooling and mounted fans on each piston. For timing, I utilized a SENSOFOIL touch sensor with a bearing to achieve infinite turn 360° position sensing. However, this large engine required more power than one computer power supply could handle. The Arduino would reset randomly or the power supply would shut down due to safety circuits. So, I upgraded to a 650W power supply just for the solenoids and another 450W for the cooling system, Arduino, and relay shield. The SENSOFOIL sensor was a bit tricky to set up, but it paid off in the end. Some of you might notice tape on the sensor; that's because my design didn't apply enough pressure for accurate readings every rotation. I'll redesign the part later. This project wasn't just 3D printed parts - there are many other components needed, such as a spool of mag wire ($27 x 4), cooling fans ($8 x 8), thermal paste tub ($25), bearings ($20-$40), wood propeller ($18), Arduino ($10), SENSOFOIL sensor ($20-$50), 8-channel relay shield ($15), and power supplies ($40 x 2). Here are my print settings: * Printer Brand: MakerBot * Printer Model: MakerBot Replicator 2 * Rafts: Doesn't Matter * Supports: Doesn't Matter * Resolution: Low * Infill: Diamond I've included notes on the STL file - rotate the parts as needed for best results. Any part under strain, like rocker arms, requires at least three shells. Use your engineering judgment! I print everything in LOW resolution for speed and strength. You can check out my design process and see how I created this incredible 3D printed V8 solenoid engine.
