Ami Chand, a trooper in Skinner's Horse who saved the life of William Fraser in 1819, is immortalized in this striking terracotta model. Painted in vibrant polychrome colors with some evidence of wires and an armature, the figure stands at 28.5 cm high. Based on a portrait featured in the Fraser Albums of Company drawings by an Indian artist, Ami Chand wears a distinctive long yellow coat with red trimmings, a black jacket with red frogging and white facings at the collar, a tiger-skin bandolier, and a tall shako marked with a crescent and tassels. His left hand rests on the hilt of his upright sword as he proudly stands ready for battle. Created in Lucknow or Delhi between 1819-1820, this terracotta masterpiece showcases Ami Chand's bravery and loyalty to his regiment.
