Solder Spool Stand Holder
thingiverse
I think that 3D printing is just one part of the fun. Assembled objects are amazing and I really enjoy mixing materials and components like bolts, nuts and aluminum...this is my design for a Solder Spool Stand, the extra parts you need are several inches of 3/4" aluminum tube (which could be replaced by a PVC pipe), aluminum for the handle, some M3 bolts, some foam (used as an anti-slip surface for the base...which could also be replaced by four rubber feet) and, most importantly, -and extremely useful for 3D printings!- some M3 thread inserts (link attached below). There is only one file for the side of the holder but, since both sides are similar, you just have to print it twice. http://www.ebay.com/itm/M1-4-M1-6-M2-M2-5-M3-Brass-Insert-Threaded-Decorative-Embedded-Knurled-Nuts/142002147708?_trksid=p2047675.c100623.m-1&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20160323102634%26meid%3Dc03d421e4c6f414599f08b3f18eb8f2f%26pid%3D100623%26rk%3D3%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D351490410356 Please comment and share if you make it. Cheers! UPDATED: 04/03/2017: I modified the design to add a hole for the thread-insert right at the center of the solder spool, which solves the problem and prevents the solder spool from falling off the stand. The remaining hole in the piece could be used as a second bolt thread-insert if you want a fixed non-basculating handle...The only limitation now is that you can't replace the aluminum tube with a wood dowel...but you still can use a PVC pipe! UPDATED: 05/03/2017: I added a handle!
