I cleared off my desk by mounting my solder spool on the side of my component drawers, giving myself some extra space to work. This little hack could also be used as a compact filament spool holder for your 3D printer's side. To keep it in place, I'm using "Command 17206 Large Picture Hanging Strips," which are specifically designed for vertical bars the same size as this one. You can easily use double-sided tape instead if you prefer. If your spool is wider than about 40mm or has an inner diameter greater than 20mm, you can adjust the dimensions in the scad file to fit. I've also included a Makefile so you can generate the STL without having to open the OpenSCAD GUI. I recently updated the vertical bar's height to 75mm to accommodate the larger strips from Command, which I received after updating my design. I think the 71mm version is their medium strip size. In addition, I've added a v2 version with chamfers and fillets for improved print quality. Print Settings: Printer Brand: FlashForge Printer: Creator Pro Rafts: No Supports: Yes Resolution: 0.30mm Infill: 10% Notes: I printed at a relatively low resolution to speed up the process, which took about 46 minutes. You'll need supports due to the lip that fits over the top of the drawers; however, you can simply remove it and print without supports if you prefer.
