Solar Powered Water Purification Cone
thingiverse
This project is a solar-powered water purification cone inspired by "The Water Cone". It's designed to be 3D printable, with potential improvements including a larger tray, looser fitting cap, less steep angle, and parametric tubing for easy farming. The cone operates on the principle of color choice: white, semi-transparent plastic lets light through without absorbing much energy while black tray absorbs more solar heat. Evaporation and condensation create drinking water in the reservoir. PLA is recommended for printing, with transparent plastic for the cone and cap parts. The tray should be printed in black PLA or lined with black tape. After filling with dirty or salty water, let it stand in the sun to collect clean water. Testing yielded about 3oz of water after 8.5 hours under 75-degree Fahrenheit conditions. This design aims to provide an affordable and effective solution for those without access to clean water, using a proven desalination and purification method.
