DISCLAIMER: As for the hangers I haven't just yet printed them, but I will give an update if everything works out.

Outlook: Others are going to follow in the next days as the printers churn out more parts.

Some solar lights for your garden that charge during day and shine brightly during the night. I was looking for an easy solution that I could do myself and were sort of robust. So, not the cheap hardware store edition, but if you look into the details, well it's all the same PCBs in the end. Anyway, a nice project to do yourself.

Mission: Design 20 solar lights for our Mediterranean terrace that are sort of unique looking and feature a bit of a swiss style (hence the cross design).

As for the electronics: You can have a look at AliExpress yourself. This design was made for 50x50 mm solar cells and that one lightstrip I linked. But as I included the Fusion file as well you might modify it for your needs. One thing I will only mention briefly here: The pole edition was made to fit an aluminium pipe OD 10 mm out of a local warehouse with a strange inner diameter (might all be the same, but the warehouse can't even specify it). As the Fusion file is included you can make it fit for whatever you want.

All the parts screw nicely into each other for my material choice and my printers. You might want to play with tolerances here. The most interesting feature is: The shell has a C2 symmetry, so you don't need to think about upper and lower parts. Just print two, they fit into each other. This resulted in the holder ring to be… well.. just a ring, no screw. This needs to be clued into the part with CA (which you probably do all day anyway as a printer).

The materials I used for the support structure was ASA/ABS for weather proofing. The shells were made out of PVB, PETG and translucent ABS whatever you have handy. Just don't use PLA at all, it won't survive.

All prints are support free. Depending on your own thoughts you can play with the infill. I settled for so many solid layers that I didn't use any infill pattern at all.

Be aware: I print(ed) 20 of them on three printers simultaneously and needed a full week. ;-)

Solarlightstrip: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002534020632.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.541a4c4dkj7WdE

Solarpanel: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005001335222221.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.541a4c4dkj7WdE

Batteries: https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B007B9NV8Q/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Next Iteration: Hangers

The bodies are clearly marked as hangers and feature a passthrough type of rope attachment. I stuck to the original design, so you will need the holder ring, the LED holder and a lid for hangers here. In this case the battery needs to be clued somewhere. Out of electrical reasons I would put it on the bottom, but with some distance, so condensate will not short cut your circuit.

Designs:

Prusa Edition (well, you need to it, right?!)

Carpe Diem

The Grillfather

Aloha

Coyote

Hawaiian Flowers

Switzerland

more to follow…

Update 24/05/2021: Uploaded one gcode file for christs sake. Hanger with Hawaiian flowers, uploaded dark and blurry picture.
