Solar Flip Filters
thingiverse
Flip-up/down solar filters for viewing the sun through Canon 10x30 Stabilized II binoculars. If you'd like these filters but for a different set of binoculars, contact me directly and we can see if I can make some designs for your binoculars. I made these specifically for watching a solar eclipse since one would want to quickly put on and take off solar filters. I do need to add this warning... WARNING never look at the sun with unfiltered binoculars EXCEPT during absolute totality! No cheating and looking at the diamond ring without filters! BUILD NOTES: You'll need your own mylar or other solar filter material. The stl file "template" can be used as a guide for cutting the filter to fit. carefully glue the front plate to the hinged frame, which should leave a 0.75mm gap for the filter. Hold the filter in place with a small screw as shown. You will also want to buy some very small felt "dots." you stick two or three (for a really snug fit) on the inside of the frame to fit onto the binoculars. You see those little hooks on the side? You can optional add those hooks and use a rubber band to attach the filters. That way, they won't fall off no matter what happens
