Solar Filter For Canon PowerShot SX530 HS

The Canon PowerShot SX530 HS is a nice 50X superzoom camera that can be reprogrammed using CHDK (http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/CHDK) and costs about $200 new, and even less as a factory refurb. The cool thing is it zooms to an equivalent of 1200mm, which is just about perfect for photographing the moon, the Sun, or an eclipse like the one most of the USA will see on August 21, 2017. The catch is it needs a solar filter, but pre-made ones are expensive and the SX530 doesn't even have a filter thread. Here's a 3D printable filter holder for AstroSolar film to simply bayonet onto the front of the lens. Don't want to use an SX530? No problem; the standard screw-thread mount version is now posted at https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2485988 as a customizer script allowing you to specify the thread size of your lens. Print Settings Printer Brand: MakerGear Printer: MakerGear M2 Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: 0.25mm Infill: at least 25% Notes: Although the AstroSolar material will cover the entire front of the lens, make this out of a PLA that is an opaque as possible; you don't want it channeling light around the filter. This is also why I recommend at least 25% fill. The filter holder prints in two parts (a cut-away view shows how they nest) and is assembled and used as per https://www.instructables.com/id/Safely-Shooting-the-Sun-With-the-Canon-PowerShot-S/ -- my instructable.
