This is a Roman copy of a lost Greek original from around 380-360 BC showing Sokrates (469-399 BC). As the intellectual father of Hellenistic philosophy, Sokrates relentlessly pursued knowledge at all costs, which led to clashes with Athens' piety laws that ultimately ended in enforced suicide. Despite his unappealing physical appearance, Sokrates' inner beauty shone through his spirit. This object is part of "Scan The World", a non-profit initiative launched by MyMiniFactory. Scan the World aims to create a digital archive of fully 3D printable sculptures, artworks and landmarks from around the world for public access at no cost. Scan the World is an open-source community project where anyone with interesting items can contribute by emailing stw@myminifactory.com to learn how they can help.
