SOFIA Stratospheric telescope observatory Boeing 747SP
thingiverse
SOFIA is a modified Boeing 747SP plane that carries a 106-inch telescope, making it the world's largest airborne observatory. Scientists use SOFIA to study star birth and death, new solar system formation, planets, nebulae, black holes, complex space molecules, and more. With the help of NASA Ames SpaceShop Rapid Prototyping Facility, the SOFIA mission has created this eight-piece, 3D-printable model of the SOFIA 747SP plane. The printable files are at a 1/200 scale, featuring interior details and a removable upper fuselage section. This model comes with interchangeable open- and closed-telescope cavity configurations and telescope instruments. Credit - NASA
