I crafted two replica feeders that initially went unnoticed by the birds, who instead flocked to our other feeders. The feeder's foundation and stepping stone appeared too tiny for their liking. I utilized Meshmixer to shrink the original STL design, then expanded the base using Fusion 360. Instead of printing a new perch, I drilled holes in the existing one and threaded wire through them. I had planned to insert small twigs, but it turned out they weren't necessary – the birds adored this revised version. Unfortunately, I tweaked three variables, leaving me uncertain about which ones made the most significant difference to the birds' attraction. However, there's a night-and-day distinction between the two versions. The factors that may have contributed to this change include: 1. The size of the base and perch – both elements now appear more substantial. 2. I swapped the filament from orange ABS to grey PETG, which could be influencing their preference. 3. The type of food itself was also altered, possibly making it more appealing to the birds.
