Socrates at The Louvre, Paris
cults3d
We can clearly spot the characteristics of the ancient Greek philosopher Socrates (469-399 BC) reflected in other likenesses, such as portraits, sculptures, or paintings. This image might very well be part of a replica of an original monumental sculpture by Lysippos crafted around 318-317 BC, which depicts the philosopher sitting upright. It is known that the original in bronze had been commissioned to Lysippos by Athens after they deeply regretted condemning Socrates to death.
