This small base is decorated with a scene difficult to interpret. It would be the representation of a ritual that could be linked to a cult or even a wedding ceremony. A heap of concretions still visible on top indicates that it was originally topped by an element now gone, probably a statuette. If the scene is religious, the base was topped with a sculpture of the deity consecrated for the celebrated cult. However, if the scene suggests a marriage, then the base likely carried a statue of Venus Anadyomene, goddess guarantor of conjugal concord. Marble, metal Second half of 1st century BC - 1st century AD H: 10.3; W: 8.5; D: 13 cm Arles, Rhone excavations, 2009 RHO.2009.14.1
