Sockinator (Sock aid)
thingiverse
This 3D-printable device is specifically designed for the Assistive Technology Challenge. When I came across that challenge, I felt compelled to take part and design something genuinely helpful to multiple people. For a lot of individuals with disabilities or older adults, doing seemingly easy things like getting dressed without assistance can be extremely challenging. Many don't even think about how tough it is to put on socks when you cannot get your feet to the ground. I first realized this during a visit with my grandma, who still manages on her own but finds it very difficult, especially now that she's ill and not feeling well. She doesn't want any help because part of freedom means being able to get dressed independently and also doing it when you feel like it. I designed the Sockinator to aid people in putting on their socks or stockings themselves or make it easier for caregivers. Currently, I only have one size, but I plan to create more versions that will fit everyone perfectly. If you have any additional ideas on how to improve the Sockinator, please feel free to share them with me. You can adjust the angle of the rod and use the device in two ways: by having it on your right side or your left side. If the rod is on the right, put the sock inside the round part, then pull it around the walls so the sock spreads out, allowing you to put your foot through. On the other hand, if the rod is on the left, simply wrap the sock around the part, and the device will open up the sock for you. You can try both ways to see which one works best for you. To assemble this 3D-printable device, you need: 1 x M4 hex head screw (min. 20mm) 1 x M4 hex nut 1 x Part 1 1 x Part 2 4 x Part 3 1 x Part 4 Print Settings: Rafts: It doesn't matter. Supports: You can set it as you prefer.
