UPDATE: After some refining, I've made significant improvements to the design, and now it works even better! Stay tuned for a short video tutorial soon. Life's simple tasks can be a daunting challenge for seniors or individuals with disabilities, leading to anxiety and depression. My elderly aunt has struggled with putting on and taking off socks, prompting her to ask me to create a solution that would make this task easier and more accessible. What she didn't reveal was the extent of her struggle, so I encourage you to consider asking yourself if someone close to you might be facing similar challenges. I combined existing ideas, made some key adjustments, and designed the 'Sock Helper'. Unfortunately, my printer is currently down due to a parts shortage, but I'm expecting it back soon. As soon as it's up and running, I'll print the design and create a short video demonstrating how to use it. To assemble the 'Sock Helper', you simply load a sock from the top, slide it down, and place your foot into the supported sock while seated. The design incorporates a non-printed pole that can be used to lift and drop the device. This pole should be cut to approximately 60cm and made from a 20mm (3/4") PVC tube or a similar-sized dowel or broom stick. The pole is inserted into the base, where it's secured with a screw. The design features two tabs on the end of the channel that serve as hooks for easily removing socks. To ensure minimal supports and optimal bed adhesion, I've incorporated a printing brim into the design. If you plan to print this in PLA, please use a flexible type to avoid breaking it when pushing down accidentally. For suggested PLA and other filaments, refer to the 'print settings' section.
