Soccerball Study
grabcad
A study on modern soccer balls was conducted and presented at a workshop held at CMR College, Hyderabad. The majority of contemporary footballs are constructed using 32 panels of waterproofed leather or plastic, consisting of 12 regular pentagons and 20 regular hexagons. This unique configuration is derived from the truncated icosahedron, creating a spherical shape due to the internal air pressure. The first ball with this 32-panel design was introduced by Select in Denmark during the 1950s and gained popularity across Continental Europe in the 1960s before becoming globally recognized as the official ball of the 1970 World Cup by Adidas Telstar.
