A study on modern soccer balls was conducted for a workshop at CMR College in Hyderabad. Most footballs are made up of 32 waterproofed leather or plastic panels, consisting of 12 regular pentagons and 20 regular hexagons, forming the spherical polyhedron that corresponds to the truncated icosahedron. This structure is due to air pressure within the ball causing it to bulge outwards. The first 32-panel ball was introduced by Select in Denmark during the 1950s, and its popularity spread throughout Continental Europe in the 1960s before becoming a global standard with the Adidas Telstar, which served as the official ball for the 1970 World Cup.
