Soccer ball (Truncated icosahedron) assembly
cults3d
A fellow mathematician is coming to visit, a friend of mine, and I wanted to create something mathematical as a gift. I had this idea of making an Archimedean solid that could be assembled. Over the weekend, I realized that if the connections are perpendicular to the opposing faces then the ball should resist disassembling once it's fully assembled - with no gluing necessary. As soon as I got home, I printed it and was very satisfied with the result. The truncated icosahedron is one of my favorite polyhedra and since it's also the classical football pattern, I decided to print the pentagons in black and the hexagons in white.
