Native American Artisans Crafted Gaming Piece (Specimen #093-397) at Berry Site in North Carolina's Burke County. Excavated in 2016 by Warren Wilson College Field School, the Soapstone Disk Weighs 26.8 Grams and Measures Approximately Two to Three Inches in Diameter. Material: High-Quality Soapstone. The Artifact Displayed Distinctive Incised Cuts on Both Sides, Suggesting Its Use as a Gaming Piece or Counter in Chance-Based Games. Disks Were Typically Made from Pottery or Stone Pieces, but the Precision of These Cut Marks Raises Questions About Their Origins, with Some Speculating that an Iron Blade Might Have Been Used to Create Them.
