Snub Archimedean Pencil Holders
thingiverse
This set features four pencil holders shaped like snub cube and snub dodecahedron. A fifth unique design, a snub cube composed of spheres and hypocycloids, is also provided in the image. Notably, only the snub cube and snub dodecahedron among Archimedean solids come in mirror-image pairs. OpenSCAD's "mirror" command makes creating these alternate forms quite simple. Four STL files are included: snub_cube_l.stl, snub_cube_r.stl, snub_dodecahedron_l.stl, and snub_dodecahedron_r.stl, along with the OpenSCAD code that generated them. These files can be directly printed on the build platform. The snub cube prints particularly well due to its minimal overhang. The mirror separating the two forms is located between the left and right hand print in the image. There's also a fountain at California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, featuring a snub cube that appears to correspond to snub_cube_l.stl, as per the publicartinla.com/sculptures/caltech/polyhedron_fount.html website.
