Here's a fascinating piece of history. Snowman expert Bob Eckstein went on a quest around the world to uncover forgotten records of snowmen from ancient times. In "The History of the Snowman", he shares a shocking discovery that will change everything we thought we knew about snow art. Believe it or not, back in 1511, Belgians erected a giant display of eccentric snow sculptures across public and private spaces in Brussels, Belgium. The display, dubbed the “Miracle of 1511,” comprised more than 100 outrageous snowmen who were busy doing unsavory things that would be considered taboo even by today's standards. But here's what's even more surprising. Belgians at that time found it uproarious, laughing uncontrollably as they viewed the outlandish figures. They were not just plain ordinary snowmen - but three-dimensional commentaries on their societal imbalance, poking fun at class inequality. But unfortunately for them, a spring thaw quickly put an end to this comedic extravaganza by melting away their ingenious works of satire. However, the brief spell of snow-inspired joy didn't go unnoticed; in fact it provided residents with a much-needed boost that bolstered their resistance against class divisions.
