Healthcare workers scramble to find solutions in response to the COVID-19 pandemic's mask shortage, prompting innovation in converting snorkel masks into makeshift N95 respirators. A human-made filter adapter is being designed to seamlessly integrate with these converted masks. The adapter features two custom 3D printed components that snap together securely, paired with a 4"x4" HEPA filter carefully cut to size for optimal fit and function. To enhance the printing process, potential modifications include dividing the bottom component into two separate pieces. This inventive solution was created by Team 116 as part of the Johns Hopkins COVID-19 Design Challenge in 2020.
