Snorkel Mask Filter adapter PPE
thingiverse
Our healthcare organization, Kelsey-Seybold Clinic, has been scouring the internet for solutions to the PPE shortages that have been plaguing us, and we've stumbled upon an innovative approach being used in Europe. This idea is rapidly gaining traction in the US as well. We partnered with a local fabricator to modify a standard full-face snorkeling mask by swapping out the air snorkel for a filter. The masks boast a silicone gasket that provides a tight seal around the face, ensuring all airflow flows unidirectionally - in through the snorkel and out through separate side ports. To accommodate various types of filters, we designed 3D printed adapters that fit standard ventilator tubing (15/22mm) as well as larger PFT filters. These filters boast a staggering 99.99% viral filtration efficiency and can be used for extended periods. The masks offer comprehensive face shield coverage, are effortless to breathe through, and won't fog up. We conducted rigorous fit testing and were thrilled with the results. To further test their effectiveness, we sprayed saccharine spray directly into the snorkel filter - a feat that left it completely blocked without any noticeable scent or taste. Additionally, all surfaces of the mask can be thoroughly cleaned and sanitized, and they may even withstand gas sterilization. The 3D printed components are also gas sterilizable, ensuring maximum safety.
