Makerspace Guernsey Acquires Advanced Laser Module for CNC Engraver/Cutter Project We recently purchased a high-performance 5W diode laser module, the CLH-5000 from OptLasers in Poland, through eBay to integrate into our CNC engraver/cutter. This powerful tool requires some essential upgrades, including air cooling, airflow over the lens, and air-assist for optimal cutting performance. We designed a custom cooling system using clear PLA and added fluorescent yellow highlighter pen details on the front of the snood to create a visible effect when the near UV laser is in operation. The cone-shaped body directs airflow down to a fine jet, while vanes draw air over the lens and support the front of the laser head. The back flange centers the cone body on the laser head. This design accommodates regular 4/6mm aquarium air hoses and may require some light sanding for proper part fitting. Print Settings Printer: TinyBoy (Fabrikator Mini) Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: 0.2mm Infill: Nope Design Process We designed the cooling system using Fusion 360 and sliced it with Cura. The model was then printed on a Fabrikator Mini with a print blower for optimal results.
