The Snapping Turtle is a large freshwater turtle species native to North America. Its scientific name, Chelydra serpentina, translates to "snake-necked" in Greek, likely due to its long neck and pointed snout. Reaching lengths of up to three feet (90 cm), Snapping Turtles are one of the largest turtle species found in North America.
