Snap Shackle (fully assembled)

This is a versatile snap shackle (aka quick-release shackle)! Its main function is to allow for easy opening even when it's under a substantial load. It's built to be durable, but let's face it, it's still just plastic: that means it can only handle light to moderate loads. Of course, having a metal one would be ideal, but if you don't have one, then you're out of luck! In my specific case, I use a similarly well-designed stainless steel shackle to store our spinnaker halyard during the upwind leg of a race. However, the boat I'm on right now didn't come equipped with one... so I fabricated one myself!
