This is a quick-release shackle (also known as a snap shackle)!\nIts main purpose is to enable easy opening of the shackle, even when it's under heavy load. It's engineered to be robust but still just plastic, so it can only handle light to medium loads. Ideally, you should have a metal one, but if not, then you're out of luck :P\nIn my specific application, I use a professionally designed stainless steel shackle to secure our spinnaker halyard during the upwind leg of a race. However, the boat I'm on right now didn't come equipped with one... so I built one myself :)\nPrint Settings\nPrinter: \n FlashForge Creator Pro\n \n Rafts: \n Not Required\n \n Supports: \n No\n \n Resolution: \n 0.2mm\n \n Infill: \n 50%\n \n Notes: \n I employed a triangular 50% infill with three shells, which makes it quite resilient without making the jaws too rigid. The more infill used, the stronger the latch and hinge will be, and the heavier loads they can support; however, it'll also make them harder to open.\nYou can print it with as little as 10% infill, but it'll be weak enough to break apart easily with a bit of force.\nA side note: since this is a load-bearing and semi-flexible design, ABS is the ideal material for printing.\nPost-Printing\nThe hinge will usually stick in place after printing. Just gently pry open the jaws, and it should crack free - no tools needed.
