Snap-on Filament Guide

Snap-on Filament Guide

Update 3rd July 2010. I observed that with certain cheaper or more fragile filaments, such as Silk, if left overnight the filament could snap at the bend. So I designed a new Roller guide using a larger wheel and a longer mount, the fitting remains the same snap fit, I adapted the wheel and pin from another Thing but shortened the pin to fit this new design. Look for the files with V2 in the name. Print 1 Mount, 1 Pin and 2 Wheels. You will need: - 2 608z bearings - 1 push-through type Bowden connector - 1 short piece of Bowden tube Glue the 2 wheel halves together, I found that super glue works fine. Cut the bowden tube as in the photos so that it is level with the top of the connector and protrudes from the bottom by 10mm, this keeps the tension even and smooth. I designed this to achieve a smoother filament run and couldn't find anything for direct drive with a roller. It snaps in place the same as the spool holder but I only made this for the 2020 extrusion. Cut the piece of Tube level with the small opening at the rear and again straight level with the edge of the wheel, as shown in the 4th and 5th photos. Once mounted push the Bowden Tube through to the connector as shown in the 1st photo, this helps relieve the strain on the filament. Print with supports everywhere @ 89deg so it only supports the roller cage. I printed it with 40% Gyroid infill and seems strong. Print 1 mount, 1 ring and 2 spacers. You will need a few parts: - 1/ small piece of Bowden tube - 2/ Bowden connector 10mm push-through type - 3/ 25mm M3 bolt and nut - 4/ 608zz bearing (standard skateboard type) I might add a filament sensor to this at some point, so it will likely change again. It took several makes and tests to get the angles right and to stop the spool from jerking off of the rollers as happens with some other guides for this spool holder but I think this now works well. If you like this please consider tipping me to help with the cost of further makes.
