Snap-on Bobbin Thread Spool Holder (with optional inlay in English or French)

This is a remix of poison_doc's great design (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2551362), adding a snap-on mechanism to securely hold the top in place - and an optional inlay for the top, stating what's inside...(Note: This was originally published on Thingiverse, but like many others I finally decided to leave the sinking ship and move here instead…)Included FilesI've included the Fusion 360 file in case you want to fiddle with the design yourself, but otherwise you can simply choose one of the included .m3f files:snapon-bobbins-case.m3f: this is basicallypoison_doc's design, with the added snap-on latches.snapon-bobbins-case-with-inlay-english.m3f: this also includes a first-layer inlay with the title "Bobbins" for the lid, which can be printed in two colors (either manually, or with a multi-material setup - see my notes below).snapon-bobbins-case-with-inlay-french.m3f: Same thing, but with the French inlay "Canettes".snapon-bobbins-case-with-inlay-french-scaled.m3f: Same as above, but scaled appropriately to fit spools of diameter 21.6mm and 13mm thickness. (Since I reused poison_doc's design, but wanted to include a stylized bobbin in the inlay design, I had to cheat and distort the circle into an ellipse in the Fusion 360 design - so it would come out as a circle after scaling.)Snap-on FitDepending on your printer's accuracy, and your choice of scaling, you might find that the snap-on latches are a bit too hard to open. If that's the case, you should be able to fix this easily by gently scraping a bit off the latches on the left and right side.ScalingYou probably will have to scale the model in your slicer to fit the bobbins spool size you need, as the models use the same scale aspoison_doc's original. In my case, I needed spools with a diameter of 21.6mm and thickness of 13mm, so I used scales 104.17%, 77.8%, and 104.17% in the x, y, and z-direction, respectively, which ended up fitting perfectly.Printing the (optional) InlayThe inlay was prepared with dual-color printing in mind, which you can do manually if (like me) you don't have a multi-color printer. This is easy to do with Prusa Slicer, for which you can find good instructions here (this should apply to other printers as well): https://prusamini.dozuki.com/Guide/Multicolor+prints/12The 3mf files are already prepared to consider the inlay and rest of the top as separate parts of the same piece, so after having configured your printer settings correctly, you should be able to slice and print the file directly. I've included the bottom in each 3mf file, so you can conveniently apply the same scaling to all - but you should print the bottom separately, since it only uses one color.Category: Organization
