Snap-Blocks: Customizable Educational Toys for Kids Snap-Block toys snap together easily, allowing kids to create and learn in a hands-on way. The blocks receive frames containing letters, numbers, or any image you can apply to the STL file. These versatile blocks are perfect for teaching children how to associate words with images, practicing spelling, or solving multi-sided puzzles. Since they're customizable and interchangeable, there isn't a commercial equivalent available on the market. Similar alphabet blocks made of similar materials can be found on Etsy for $48 (26 blocks), but these lack the added functionality of color, letter/number, and image interchangeability that Snap-Blocks offer. By printing the same number of blocks with 20% infill using Hatchbox PLA filament, you can create a set of Snap-Blocks for around $30. The OpenSCAD file provided is designed to be fully customizable - simply download snap_frame.scad, enter a letter, and output an STL file. To add an image to your block, import the snap_frame.stl file into a 3D modeling software like Blender, and then extrude the image inside the frame. If you're new to importing pictures into Blender, follow these easy steps. To see more of my projects and ideas, visit my page on Appropedia for inspiration and guidance.
