SnakeBite Remix Failure
thingiverse
Inspired by TheDigitalDentist's SnakeBite extruder, I designed a version that omits the need for special parts or machining altogether. The idea revolves around positioning M3 bolts to generate a right-handed thread on one gear and left-handed on the other. This orientation causes the filament to move in the same direction while both gears rotate in opposing directions. The design failed to work well enough, though it functioned somewhat as intended. Rotating the gear did advance the filament but also excised unnecessary plastic fragments. When sufficient force was applied, the filament merely slipped away instead of being pulled smoothly along. My experimentation primarily focused on one gear rotating by hand alone. During this project, I discovered Parkinbot's outstanding gear creation script: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:636119. This encounter inspired me to post this failure as a resource for others to avoid similar pitfalls or perhaps spark novel ideas of their own.
