Snake - Vikings 3D Prophecy - Episode 15

The weeks 3D Prophecy item is a snake meticulously captured in its natural habitat through live 3D scanning on set in Ireland. Ensuring the object remains stationary during scanning is crucial, which is why we enlisted the expertise of an animal handler from the Vikings show to carefully position the snake for optimal stillness. With the snake firmly in place, we were able to extract a wealth of data that was then seamlessly translated into a stunningly accurate 3D model of the reptile. Next, we employed cutting-edge full-color industrial 3D printing technology known as color jet printing (CJP), which works by depositing ink and binder onto a powder surface in a layer-by-layer fashion, mimicking the process of a traditional 2D printer. The challenge lay in replicating the snake's authentic appearance. Thanks to the precision of 3D scanning, we were able to accurately capture its natural form and color gradient, which informed our design for a remarkably realistic snake.
