My First Organic Sculpt, If You Will Used a reference picture of one vertebrae from all six sides to create an inter-locking design that allows a wire to run through the middle. The idea was sparked by a necklace I bought in the Philippines featuring a king cobra de-spined and ribbed for a non-painful look. The snake had been killed by tribesmen for food, so it wasn't inhumane, FYI.
