SMOOTHER ABS Acetone smoothing chamber with IKEA 365+ Jar

WARNING: Acetone vapor is highly flammable, use this project at your own risk. The driver motor I used is not brushless, so it can generate sparks and ignite the Acetone vapor. To avoid this, I designed a cap over the motor to keep it out of the open, but still use with caution. When you try to smooth a tall ABS print, the top part won't be equally smoothed as the lower part of the print. To solve this issue, I made this smoothing chamber with a motorized shaft. You have to add 4mm holes in your designs, but make sure to make them larger since they get smaller while printing. I use 4.3mm holes. Parts are easy to get - the jar is from IKEA and other parts can be found on Aliexpress or Amazon. The part list is below. Total costs are under €20, with 10 pieces of 4mm rods costing €8.60 and only one being needed. Filament used for all parts is around 225 grams, including the jar base which is 100 grams. The lid is made with Polypropylene and won't be affected by Acetone. However, gluing the PLA print to the lid can be really hard. Sand the lid slightly with fine sandpaper and use a two-component glue. If that doesn't work for you, I also uploaded a version with holes so you can attach it with M4 bolts and nuts. The prints can be attached together, everything fits tightly, and the lid print and driver housing are twist fitted. But once they're attached, it's hard to get them off again. If you want to be able to remove them easily, use a little bit of silicone spray in the slots. Glue the part first on the lid and when it's dry, you can drill the hole in the lid. There are two 684 bearings in the print, which need to be pressed fit with an M4 nut and bolt. Don't hammer them in, as this will damage the bearing! Drill a 2mm hole in the lid as shown in the picture to keep the pressure low in the chamber. Acetone expands when it's in vapor shape. I also ordered couplers to attach the 4mm shaft to the 5mm motor shaft, but they didn't arrive on time. So I designed a coupler for it. I still recommend using a brass coupler (link below).
