Smooth rod straightness tester
thingiverse
I needed a way to securely mount my dial indicator/gauge for accurately checking the straightness of rods. I encountered issues with Chinese rods that failed to meet specifications, so this was a means of gathering some data. Print 2 end-holders and 1 base-holder and 1 dial-holder, and then attach them directly to a flat surface, such as MDF using bolts. The bolt holes are 3mm in diameter and the dial indicator hole is 8mm in diameter. The pointed rod on the end-holder provides a way to fasten the rod with a rubber band or similar material. Print Settings Rafts: None were required. Supports: Not needed. Resolution: 0.3mm. Infill: 15% density was used. Notes: The device was printed using PLA filament.
