I was in the middle of building a Prusa V2 enclosure when I realized that a giant smoke detector on its back (see pic) would be an eyesore. So, I started searching for a better solution. In the U.S., we use small First Alert smoke detectors (First Alert model P1010, also sold under brand ELRO in other countries) with a lithium battery that lasts 10 years. Since you can't paint these PRUSA orange to match the cabinet because it might affect the detector's sensors, I came up with a little cover that snaps into place and still allows for monthly test button use. This solution was compact and aesthetically pleasing, matching the rest of the cabinet. To print correctly, set the orientation so the small hole on the detector cover faces down (on the bed), and set top and bottom layers to 0 layers. Use honeycomb infill at 20% for a nice hexagon pattern on the bottom. When installing, mount the detector with its test button/light facing forward, then snap the cover into place! I've tested this and it detects smoke fine with the cover on, but use caution and ensure your smoke detector works properly before relying on it.
