Smith Corona Body Mount Grommet

If you've ever worked on a Smith-Corona five series (maybe others?) you've dealt with the anti-vibration grommets. If you werelucky, they looked like the ones in the attached photos, but in my experience they have usually rotted beyond use. Due to limitations of 3d printing and flexible filament, these are printed in two parts, a flat washer and a shouldered washer. I did quite a bit of experimentation regarding design and installation. To replace the four grommets on the bottom of the typewrite: Slide flat washer between frame and body Insert screw through shouldered washer and screw in place. It might take a little bit of manipulation, but the shoulder should pull into the opening of the flat washer and complete the “grommet.” Using them between the body and the rear cover is a bit more of a challenge. If you have workable original grommets, this is where to put them. If not, assemble the two parts through the holes on the body panel and then weld them with glue or heat. I used the tip of a hot soldering iron to weld them on my machine. Assemble the panel and align the grommet with the holes using a drift pin, nail, or dental pick before screwing in place. Let me know what you like or don’t like, including dimensions. If you find the grommets too firm, it could possibly be addressed by adding air space in the grommet.
