Smaug Head Bowl
myminifactory
With this sculpt, I've managed to combine my usual sculpting process into a product design version of it. The inspiration came from Smaug, the Hobbit's dragon. Given that this is my first "product design style" apart from the Octopus, I decided to create an object with two distinct functionalities: a small bowl for chocolate/fruit/etc. or a hanger for your jacket. For this second idea, I received valuable help from my colleague Mark Ledwold, who provided and optimized screw holder that I merged with my base. The Zbrush workflow that I followed this time was similar to the one I used for other models I made in the past months: Reference image and plan primary forms; fix volume of objects; add secondary forms - trym dynamic, move, standard, hpolish, dam standard, curve tube, form soft; keep a flat and clean base to add contrast between detailed part of concept and product idea; add details and fix some proportions; optimisation for printing free support. This model can be printed without supports needed, however I tested the support needs on this object and Cura generated only a couple of really thin supports that I cleaned by hand. As a final experiment, I bought a packet of Lindt chocolate to test the usability of the product (still can be printed on a larger scale like 15x15x20cm for better capability).
