Smash Bros Ball Trophy

Smash Bros Ball Trophy

Made this trophy for the winner of our local tournament. It has been carefully crafted to showcase the Smash Bros logo from all four sides, and its legs are precisely angled at exactly 45 degrees so they won't need additional support material. I printed it two ways. First, as a single solid part (lots of unnecessary support material). Second, as three separate parts (minimal support material). You can see the results side-by-side in the last image. The second print I did had thicker legs and a wider, thinner base, but I liked the first base better so stuck with the thicker legs and thinner base. I believe the single-piece print turned out the best. A lot of extra work was required to remove all of the support material and use a file to smooth the bottom of the sphere, but it was worth it. The single solid piece is much more aesthetically pleasing. I had already printed two of these, and did not want to print a third and fourth, but there are two other options that can be tried. 3. Print the ball as one piece (very little support material) and the base as one piece (no support material) and attempt to glue the ball to the base. 4. Modify the ball slightly so there are slots for the top of the base to slide into. STL, STP, and Solidworks (2016) files are available. You can easily make the base taller or shorter by editing the base's helix curve height for all eight helices. I have labeled each feature to assist you in editing the trophy to your liking. I used a specific formula to calculate the pitch required for a 45-degree angle on the legs: Pitch = pi * (D) * tan(45) If your printer struggles with 45-overhangs, you can change the pitch. For example, for a 60-degree angle, your pitch would be pi * (45) * tan(60)=245.
