Smash Bros Ball Trophy
thingiverse
Made this trophy for the winner of a local tournament. It has been designed so that you see the Smash Bros logo from all 4 sides, and the legs are at exactly 45 deg so they will not need support material. I printed this two ways. First, as a single part (lots of support material). Second, as three separate parts (minimal support material). You can see the results side-by-side in the last image. The second print I did thicker legs and a wider, thinner base, but I liked the first base better so stuck with the thicker legs and thinner base. I think the single-piece print turned out the best. Lots of extra work removing all of the support material and using a file to smooth the bottom of the sphere, but worth it. The single solid piece is much more aesthetically pleasing. I had already printed 2 of these, and did not want to print a third and fourth, but there are two other options to be tried. 3. Print the ball as one piece (very little support material) and the base as one piece (no support material) and attempt to glue the ball to the base. 4. Modify the ball slightly so there are slots for the top of the base to slide into. STL, STP, and Solidworks (2016) files are available. You can easily make the base taller/shorter by editing the base's helix curve height for all 8 helices. I have labeled each feature to assist you in editing the trophy to your liking. I used the following formula to calculate the pitch required for a 45 deg angle on the legs: pitch = pi * (D) * tan(45) If your printer struggles with 45 overhangs you can change the pitch. For example, for a 60 degree angle your pitch would be pi * (45) * tan(60)=245.
