Smartthings Button (2018) Light Switch Plate Mount, Magnetic
thingiverse
I utilize Smartthings buttons primarily for local control of lights in case the internet connection between Alexa and the Smartthings hub goes down. This setup also simplifies light management for guests visiting my home. To keep the buttons within a logical location, such as existing light switches, I created this mount. While other options are available, this one combines screws with positioning the button further away from the actual switch to prevent accidental triggers. Two 6mm x 3mm neodymium magnets insert from behind and align perfectly with those inside the button, providing a snug fit. The pull force comes from the front, making glue unnecessary. It's essential to ensure correct magnet orientation by testing it against the back of the Smartthings button. The thin wall separating the magnets and the button is only .3 mm thick. I recommend printing at a layer height of .1 or .15 for optimal results. As the bridge is relatively narrow, supports are not necessary; I opted out of using them altogether.
