See in 3D how this X Carriage will seamlessly integrate into my [WIP!] 3D printer design at Sketchfab: https://skfb.ly/LPP7. Note that this "thing" is not intended for production use, so download and modify as needed. The solution I've chosen moving forward involves the printed internal teeth. To view the latest iteration of the design with a tensioning system added to the "earless" feature, visit http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1505842. The initial iteration can be seen here ("earless" only): http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1369402. I began by designing a CoreXY 3D printer and SmartRap core was one highly debated option at the time due to its JSCAD customizer and rapid growth. I downloaded the package, attempting to add a dual hotend but failing due to those ears that "catch" the belt. They also appeared feeble to me and unaesthetic. I set out on a journey to create an X carriage (for vertically stacked X rods) that was better than what I had found. Currently, I have three solutions in development, each with test parts being printed so I can decide which one is easiest to print, clamp, and possibly even tension. For the first solution, I designed a toothed surface against which the belt would be gripped inside the X Carriage block by inserting it through the slot at the wider gap level and sliding it down or up between the 3D printed teeth.
