Smart Extruder + Flex Filament Upgrade
thingiverse
This upgrade makes printing flexible filament easier on the MakerBot Smart Extruder +. I conducted some initial tests with a MakerBot Replicator+ at standard resolution (0.2mm), using flexible filament shore 45D, which were successful. I even tested it with NinjaFlex (shore 85A) and it worked fine. To get optimal results, you'll need to adjust the z-axis offset, print speed (Shell and Infill Print Speed 20mm/s), temperature, and retraction settings (Temperature 235°C, Filament Diameter 1.77, Retraction Distance 0mm). For more information on this topic, check out a blog post at https://www.3d-edu.ch/makerbot-print-update-fuer-custom-settings-flexibles-filament-mit-replicator-drucken/. The upgrade works even better with a MakerBot Tough PLA Smart Extruder. According to Filaflex, you should use the following settings: Print speed 20mm/s, print temperature (240°C), and no retractions or low distance (1mm retraction distance at 30mm/s speed). If your plastic melt flow is not constant, increase the extruder flow by 5-10% (105-115%). Note that making changes to your products may void your warranty. Print Settings: Printer Brand: MakerBot; Printer: MakerBot Replicator+; Rafts: Doesn't Matter; Supports: Yes; Resolution: 0.2mm; Infill: 10%; Notes: You should change the position of the files before printing, but that's up to you. Post-Printing: Additionally, you'll need a M3 x 10 screw and nut.
