Smart Door Closer (actuating door stop)
thingiverse
UPDATE - I'm leaving all the old files, but have added a new version (v3) with some improvements. First, I've eliminated the need for supports. You can print in place, one piece, and use it straight off the bed. I've added/tweaked the adjustable portion so you can use a standard 3mm screw to adjust the angle/position of the tip to make sure it grabs onto the door well. I've also added a little more length for bigger doors (although you may have to adjust it more yourself) and changed the end portion so it doesn't dip down as much so it works better with thicker carpeting. Good luck and let feel free to ask me any questions. Ok, I'm pretty proud of this one, I spent a while trying different strategies and I think I have a winner. I first tried to make a device that actively pushed a door closed, but this was difficult. Also, I did not like the FHF (finger hazard factor). Instead, I decided on a combo of this [autoclosing hinge](amazon.com/dp/B08YZ2TF1F) (3pc for $27) and this DIY solenoid-actuated doorstop. This one-piece print holds the door open but is then actuated by a [12v solenoid](amazon.com/dp/B07K35L4TH) ($9) to unlatch it and allow it to close - simply controlled by a smartplug+12v wall wart. Anchor it to the wall near the typical springy doorstop and the door can be loaded into position, held back by a latch. Tell your home automation to turn on the solenoid for a second or two and voila! closed door. This means that there is no middle ground, though, only fully open or closed. One last caveat, DONT DO THIS, STOP GO BACK. If for any reason the solenoid is left on for too long it can get very hot, fail, and even be a fire hazard. I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR YOU MAKING THIS DEVICE OR USING THIS IN ANY WAY. I currently have a Smarthings routine (running locally) set to automatically turn it off after two seconds any time it's turned on, but as an additional safety measure, I've wired in a [100C thermal fuse](amazon.com/dp/B081Y8NMXM) (10pc for $7) placed against the coil. I have already accidentally tested this and it worked but is not guaranteed! [video of it in action](https://youtu.be/wosLptfKj14)
