Smart Card Case (parametric)
thingiverse
This versatile card wallet/case provides ample space for at least eight cards, possibly a few more. The parametric design allows for easy adjustments to accommodate varying numbers of cards, although precise printer settings may be necessary to achieve the desired results. There are numerous versions of these wallets available on Thingiverse, and I drew inspiration from commercially sold designs before discovering many open-source options here. I've incorporated ideas from these models into my own design, refining it to better suit 3D printing requirements. By placing the card-pushing handle on the side, more cards can be accommodated while maintaining a compact design. To keep the cards in place, I use fabric or leather inserts within the wallet's walls. While this approach has proven effective, some experimentation may be necessary to achieve optimal results with your chosen material. One distinct feature of my design is the inclusion of multiple thin shelves on the arm, which allows for better card support given their varying thicknesses (typically ranging from 0.8-1.3 mm). By default, each shelf measures 0.6 mm in width. I've also modified the design to lower the arm slightly towards the backside of the box, preventing cards from becoming stuck between the wall and the arm. Unlike some other Thingiverse designs that attempt to print the wallet in a single piece, I've chosen to split the printing process into two parts. This approach enables the creation of thin, durable walls by printing them with layers in opposite directions. However, this method requires more time and effort. Future updates may include the ability to move the arm, which could potentially reduce the maximum number of cards that can be stored.
