Smart bearing block V2 - common lm8uu bearing block replacement
cults3d
Hi. I had to deal with poor-quality bearings in my Anet a8 printer, which was negatively impacting the print quality. I decided to replace them with something better. First, I printed bearing blocks instead of aluminum ones because they didn't fit the lm8uu bearings well. This improved things but wasn't excellent. Then, I tried printing PLA bearings available on Thingiverse, but that failed too. I came across a bearing block then. It's a smart idea, but none of the projects available met my needs. So, I decided to create my own model of bearing block. This model is a replacement for lm8uu bearings (an 8mm shaft bearing with a block): The size is almost identical and it should fit everywhere where the original bearing block fits. It should also fit a large number of bearing models up to 3x8x10mm, such as 623zz, R2-5ZZ, and many others. It features backlash compensation so you'll never have unwanted clearance between shaft and block. Backlash compensation can be done using two springs or with rubber printed dumpers (an STL file is included). It's significantly lighter than the original one. Only cheap small bearings are required, along with M3 screws and M3 spacers. Test it out and let me know what you think. This model looks complicated to print but it's actually quite easy. Notes: - This is designed for three bearings. - Print at a low layer height as possible. - If you have a small nozzle like 0.3 or less, use that. - Print very slowly. - There are some tiny bridging areas so you might need to use a cooling fan. - No supports are required. This is the second version of bearing block. The first one can be found here. Both work well but have slightly different designs and minor improvements. Have fun! Materials needed (BOM): - 3 bearings (623ZZ or other 10mmx3mmx4mm) - 10x4x4 will also work, just enlarge the bearing mounting holes. - 2 x M3x10mm screws, 4 x M3 spacers, 2 x M3 nuts (main bearing shafts) - 1 x M3x16mm screw, 2 x M3 spacers, 1 x M3 nut (arm bearing shaft) - 1 x M3x16mm screw, 1 x M3 nut (arm mount)
