Smart 453 Magnetic Adapter for Smartphone Holder

Introduction ========= This is a mount with integrated magnets to support up to 6” smartphones. Goal was to have a mount that is easy to use with all sizes of modern smartphones. I found the spider mount was too small and too much of a hassle. It fits the original Smart Smartphone holder for the 453 model that mounts above the radio to the dash board. However, please note that there are two versions of the original smart phone mount: A 453 820 1300 is the first rendition with the smaller spider and A 453 820 4800 ist the one with a bigger spider for 6" phones. This Thing is designed for the first rendition and I have not tested with the newer model but as long as the base remained identical it should fit. Feedback on this would be appreciated. Instructions ========= To make this, you will need eight 10 x 3 mm magnets and be able to add a pause to your print in order to drop the magnets in. Set the pause so that the next layer printed will cover the magnets, this way you avoid collision of the nozzle with the magnets. The fit is a bit tight, be sure to drop the magnets in parallel to the print bed and push down. Important: make sure to drop in the magnet with alternating polarity to create a strong magnetic field! Screw the support to the mount using two M3x16 mm cylinder head bolts. The tab in the back is just for alignment. The support keeps the smartphone from sliding off the mount on uneven ground. Make sure to print both parts from something like ABS or PETG to keep them from warping in a hot car in summer. Then simply remove the four (Torx) bolts holding the original spider and use them to bolt it to the new, printed mount. Bill of materials ========= Here are the items I used for convenience. Tipps: ========= * If you use a cover for your smartphone, simply drop the metal plate between cover and phone. No need to permanently stick it to anything. This way you can reuse them indefinitely. * Try to source the bolts locally from a machine shop, should cost next to nothing then. * Buy the mobile phone mount from Smart only used, they usually go for around 40 EUR. They are insanely expensive from new.
