SMARS Firefighter MOD mod
thingiverse
I remixed the SMARS firefighting robot as I printed and assembled it. Most of these changes are because items were too loose or didn't quite work after I printed them. The two biggest changes are the top and the chassis. I purchased rechargeable 9v batteries from Amazon and had to drill a hole for the charger to fit in. Now I don't have to disassemble to charge it. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07F67HC2C/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I changed the top using Tinkercad to put my department's initials on it and to place crossed axes on it. I could not figure out how to design a Halligan, so no irons. EDIT: 8/7/19 Since making this firetruck, I have made some changes. 1) I couldn't get the TicTac container to be water-tight under pressure. It would leak every time the pump ran and wouldn't spray water. So I changed to a pill bottle. This has a locking top and will hold pressure. 2) The next issue was refilling. I ended up buying some push-to-connect fittings so I can easily remove the top of the bottle and refill. 3) I don’t like pressurizing the water container to spray water, so I bought this pump (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32826240881.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.1bca4c4dh8Jw0C). It works a lot better and I don’t have worry about water-tight issues. 4) Last note is the balance is off. The pump hanging off the back and the water not centered make it back-heavy. When it first starts, it has a tendency to tip back. 5) I still need to fix tracks/wheels but I think I will try to do that in my next one. My redesign I am planning on will hopefully address these issues along with a few other ideas I have. This thing will not be modified.
