I've got a compact Printrbot Simple Metal setup going on with a 6-inch cube build area. Two components from the original design wouldn't fit within my bed size, so I fired up Sketchup and tweaked the STL files to make some adjustments. I sliced off the last compartment of each section and then glued them together once they were printed out. It's not a high-tech fix, but it gets the job done – the parts stick together well enough that when you remove the insert, they'll hold their shape.
